Identity foreclosure

There’s a name for this way of thinking.

I identify as a designer today, and I couldn’t possibly do the job of a commercial person because that is not who I am.

Identity foreclosure is when someone adopts an identity, values or goals without exploring other options, often based on external expectations or influences. It can lead to a lack of self-awareness, and dissatisfaction later in life.
